Life Skills Training: Preparing for Adulthood
Overview
FosterED Connection’s life skills training programs are designed to equip foster youth with the essential skills they need to navigate life successfully after aging out of the foster care system. These skills are often overlooked, but they are critical to helping youth gain independence and confidence as they transition into adulthood.
Key Programs:
Financial Literacy: We teach foster youth how to manage a budget, understand credit, save money, and make informed financial decisions.
Basic Cooking & Nutrition: Cooking workshops help children learn how to prepare simple, nutritious meals on a budget. We also teach meal planning, grocery shopping, and food safety.
Household Maintenance: From learning how to iron clothes to cleaning a home, our life skills classes ensure that foster youth know how to maintain a tidy, safe living space.
Job Readiness Workshops: We focus on helping youth prepare for employment, with workshops on writing resumes, interview skills, and workplace etiquette.
Time Management & Goal Setting: Learning to prioritize tasks, set goals, and manage time is key to succeeding in both school and life, and our time management program gives youth these tools.
Why It Matters:
Without life skills training, many foster youth are ill-prepared for adulthood and face challenges such as homelessness, unemployment, and financial instability. FosterED Connection ensures that these youth are ready to take on the challenges of adulthood with confidence and competence.
